Place of Changing Winds Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir 2024
from A$130.00

Must be part of your order to access the two limited Estate wines below. Maximum 1 magnum per customer.

From several estate parcels including those that sometimes produce our Beyond The Forest cuvee, the 2024 Between Two Mountains is a fleshy, complex and hedonistic Pinot. We think it's our finest release of this wine. Although it's powerful, it’s also a wine of great perfume and finesse, and is already approachable (although it will certainly age very well). It was matured for nearly 30 months: the first two years in oak, then 6 months in tank, all the while building depth and complexity. We used a range of barrel sizes (228, 300, and 600 litres), from Stockinger and Dominique Laurent cooperages, with around 20% new. As always, no fining, no filtration.

Alcohol: 13%.

Place of Changing Winds Larderdark Chardonnay 2024
from A$155.00

Maximum 6 bottles and 1 magnum per customer.

A very deep, powerful, yet vibrant Chardonnay that needed a long time (30 months) to come around and get ready for bottling. The extremely low yields were minuscule, which helps explain the concentration, huge drive, freshness and length. The wine was fermented (both primary and full malolactic) in both 228-litre barrique casks and Wineglobe (glass). Aging was for 22 months in barrel and globe, and then a further 8 months in tank before bottling without fining or filtration. It has only recently been bottled so it needs some time. We’re expecting a long life for this tiny release. Orders of 3 bottles come in a beautiful wooden box.

Place of Changing Winds High Density Pinot Noir 2024
from A$375.00

Maximum 6 bottles and 1 magnum per customer.

High Density is only released in the very best years, with the last release being 2021. Although all of our wines are high-density, this is based on our closest-planted vines (20k/ha and 33k/ha), with the fermenter topped up with some neighbouring vines if need be.

Fermentation in 2024 was in a large wooden Stockinger cask, with the cap submerged. It was a short and fast ferment (as it was for all our Pinot), with only 10% whole bunch used. The resulting wine is a Pinot of great purity, singularity, perfume and very fine tannins. As always, this is much more tightly wound than the more seductive Between Two Mountains. It will really benefit from some aging, at least five years. If you drink it young, just take your time and give it a gentle decant to help it open. It was aged in barriques and bottled after 24 months with no fining or filtration.

Orders of 3 bottles come in a beautiful wooden box.

Place of Changing Winds Syrah No.2 2024
A$38.00

Don’t be misled by the name. No.2 is a blend of Place of Changing Winds’ two single-vineyard Syrahs, crafted to be approachable in its youth and ideal for pouring by the glass. While it remains the estate’s most accessible release, it receives the same meticulous care in both vineyard and winery as all wines from this grower.

The 2024 vintage combines 30% Harcourt Syrah, grown on pure sandy granitic soils, with 70% Heathcote Syrah from the Cambrian soils of the Mount Camel Range. In the winery, fifteen separate ferments were handled using a range of whole-bunch approaches—from fully destemmed to 100% whole cluster, with many variations in between. The wine was aged primarily in small and medium-format oak during its first year, followed by larger vessels in the second year, with 25% matured exclusively in concrete to preserve freshness and purity.

The cooler 2024 growing season has produced a wine of finesse and freshness: a slinky, sappy, and floral, medium-bodied wine more reminiscent in weight to a Pinot Noir than the fuller styles typically associated with Heathcote Shiraz. It closes with macerated red-berry flavours and fine, powdery tannins.

2023 Place of Changing Winds Marsanne/Roussanne
A$64.00

Our Grower white wine comes from Harcourt North in Victoria’s Bendigo G.I., about an hours’ drive north of our Macedon cellars. With its pure, sandy, granitic soils, and mild climate, we believe this place is one of Australia’s most exciting places for Rhone varieties, both white and red. The eroded granite soils, and the mild climate, allows for a full ripening cycle (we always harvest in March). As always, the grapes were picked fully ripe, pressed firmly and sent straight to barrel (500 and 228 litres), concrete egg and 220-litre glass Wineglobe, for both fermentation and aging with all the fine lees. Malolactic occurred naturally and the wine was bottled in November 2024 without fining or filtration.

This is the polar opposite of the ‘pinot gris’ style of many Australian Marsanne’s that are picked early, inoculated, tank reared and filtered. It will certainly age well, gaining more honeyed characters, but is equally delicious now. It has the power and richness of previous releases, yet with good vibrancy thanks to Harcourt’s micro-climate and the inclusion of Roussanne.

2022 Place of Changing Winds Heathcote Syrah
from A$64.00

Our Heathcote Syrah comes from an east-facing plot of 20-plus-year-old vines rooted in the red Cambrian soils of the Mount Camel Range. Although this northerly subregion is capable of producing some of Heathcote’s most refined wines, this area still produces far more powerful wines than our Harcourt site, so it gets an additional year in cask. The 2022 spent its first year in a range of neutral barrels before being blended to a 2,000-litre Stockinger cask for the remainder of its maturation. It was bottled at the end of February 2025 after three years of aging in wood. Although a refined, savoury and perfumed expression of Heathcote (and only just over 13%), it remains a deep Syrah that might just live forever.

Alcohol: 13.3%. Closure: Diam 30.

2023 Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Syrah
from A$64.00

This is our third Syrah release from Harcourt North (from the same site as the white above). Fermented with 60% whole-bunches, the wine underwent almost two years’ maturation in large-format Stockinger (500, 1,500- and 2,000-litre casks) and was bottled in late February 2025. From a cooler vintage, it’s another example that combines perfume and finesse with excellent depth and fine structure.
